This week, President Joe Biden received praise from Mexico’s left-leaning president. He praised the incoming American president for being the first in history to refrain from building a wall along their shared border, an action that has been perceived as dividing rather than unifying people.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed admiration for everyone who is passionate about their profession and leadership at the 10th North American Leaders’ Summit in Mexico City. He gave them credit for changing things on both sides of the border and bringing about improvements in all of our common communities.

“You, President Biden, you are the first president of the United States in a very long time that has not built, not even one meter of wall. And that we thank you for that, sir, although some might not like it, although the conservatives don’t like it,” he said.

Conservatives were outraged by his words of admiration and dubbed President Biden “America Last” because they said that he was putting foreign interests ahead of those of American residents and turning the United States into a country that prioritizes other countries.

Obrador made a bold claim, but the events that transpired soon proved him wrong.
In contrast to previous administrations, President Biden pledged throughout the campaign that he would not erect any additional border walls.
“There will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration,” he’d said in August of 2020.

After taking office, the president honored his word and was rewarded with Obrador’s passionate support.
“One of Biden’s first executive orders was to halt work on the wall, which had been one of former President Donald Trump’s first campaign promises. … At his regular news briefing Friday, Mexico’s president told reporters he supports Biden’s decision, saying in the past, U.S. presidents from both parties had worked on the border wall,” Voice of America reported at the time.
President Biden made a firm commitment this summer, but he recently broke it.
“The Biden administration on Thursday authorized completion of the Trump-funded U.S.-Mexico border wall in an open area of southern Arizona near Yuma, where four wide gaps make it among the busiest corridors for illegal crossings,” NBC News reported at the time.
“The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that the work to complete the project near the Morelos Dam will better protect migrants who can get hurt slipping down a slope or drown walking through a low section of the Colorado River,” the outlet added.
President Trump controversially decided to complete some of his predecessor’s wall because he wanted to make life easier for foreigners seeking asylum in America rather than for protective reasons.
Despite making a single, insignificant attempt to keep the border secure, President Trump has virtually undone all security-related advancements made by his predecessor, making it simpler than ever for persons and products to travel between Mexico and the United States.
He finally made his goal known this week: to fulfill a lifelong dream.
“We’re trying to make it easier for people to get here — opening up the capacity to get here,” he said on Tuesday.
Even though the president wants to relax immigration restrictions and make it easier for asylum applicants, this could have an unintended effect of giving illegal aliens more reasons to try to enter the country.
America has endured a terrible cycle of rising border crossings by undocumented immigrants for two long years, which has resulted in the largest flood ever.
