Democrats Weaponize “Blue Slip” Tradition
President Trump nominated Alina Habba to serve as U.S. attorney for New Jersey in March. Habba had previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer, demonstrating loyalty when political opponents tried to take him down.
But Democrat Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim refused to return their “blue slips” for her nomination.
This century-old Senate tradition allows home-state senators to block judicial and U.S. attorney nominations. Without their approval, nominees cannot move through the Senate Judiciary Committee.
