Air Force One came dangerously close to disaster during President Donald Trump’s state trip to the United Kingdom this week. A Spirit Airlines jet reportedly strayed into the president’s airspace and forced air traffic controllers to issue repeated, frantic commands to prevent a mid-air collision.
The Near Miss Over Long Island
The incident unfolded shortly after President Trump’s plane departed Washington, D.C., and was flying over Long Island en route to London. According to recordings now circulating online, controllers were audibly panicked as they struggled to redirect Spirit Airlines Flight 1300 away from Air Force One’s path.
One monitor can be heard yelling at the Spirit pilot to “get off the iPad” and focus on his controls. The tense moment escalated when repeated directives had to be shouted. “Spirit 1300, turn 20 degrees right, vectors traffic in descent,” the Boston controller ordered, noting the traffic was none other than the Commander-in-Chief’s aircraft.
