A startling incident happened in Virginia on Friday when police detained an elementary school pupil who they suspect shot his teacher. Since the alleged shooter is just six years old, many people are in shock.

According to the Daily Press, a first-grader allegedly shot a female teacher in her 30s at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News once, inflicting serious injuries that put her life in danger. The shooting apparently happened during a “altercation” between the student and the victim, according to Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew.
“This was not an accidental shooting,” Drew stated.
“There was no circumstance where someone was evading the school shooting. A gunshot was fired in one particular place where we were,” Drew informed the media site. According to the outlet, the teacher was brought into jail and then taken with serious injuries to a nearby hospital.
All of the kids were escorted to the gym by their teachers as the situation developed, where they were kept under the supervision of counselors and policemen, Drew told WTKR News. He told the newspaper, “We want to make sure that they’re OK.

“It’s been a long day for a lot of people. But at the end of the day, the children’s safety is our top priority,” Jones told the Daily Press. “It’s a dark day for Newport News, but we’re gonna learn from this, and we’re gonna come back stronger.”
