Over the weekend, CNN ran a hit piece citing unnamed sources claiming that cutting climate-related initiatives would “harm national security.” According to one of these anonymous officials, “I think they’re stuck on the word ‘climate’ and not seeing the operational impacts.” Another critic, former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations, and Environment Dr. Ravi Chaudhary, went even further, stating, “Inaction (on ‘climate change’) at this point will put our readiness and the lives of our troops and their families at greater risk.”
The Pentagon, however, is not backing down. Pentagon press secretary John Ullyot quickly dismissed these claims, telling CNN, “The DOD is working closely with DOGE to identify efficiencies and savings across the department on behalf of taxpayers while we restore the warrior ethos and refocus our military on its core mission of deterring, fighting, and winning wars.”
