This shift underscores the stark difference between the Trump and Biden administrations. Under Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas—who was impeached for his failures—the department became a tool for open border policies. Now, with Noem at the helm, the enforcement of immigration laws is once again a top priority.
With ICE back in full force, officials predict over 160,000 illegal aliens could be deported by the end of the fiscal year on October 1. Noem made it clear that this is just the beginning.
“President Trump and this Administration are saving lives every day because of the actions we are taking to secure the border and deport illegal alien criminals,” Noem stated.
She doubled down on the commitment to removing lawbreakers from U.S. soil. “We are sending them home, and they will never be allowed to return,” she added.
Noem isn’t stopping at just ICE. She is strengthening enforcement by working with multiple agencies, ensuring illegal immigration is tackled from all sides. Homeland Security has deputized U.S. Marshals, special agents from the State Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Prisons, the Texas National Guard, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) to enforce immigration laws.
Additionally, Homeland Security is expanding the 287(g) program, which allows state and local law enforcement officers to act as federal immigration agents. With these reinforcements, the Biden-era roadblocks to deportations are being dismantled.
Noem also praised the efforts at the southern border, where Trump’s policies have led to an astonishing drop in illegal crossings.
According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), agents encountered only 200 illegal aliens at the border in a single day during Trump’s first month back—marking a 15-year low. Illegal crossings have plummeted by an incredible 94% since Biden left office.
The daily average of border encounters is now just 285, compared to the nearly 5,000 daily encounters under Biden.

New Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks credited Trump’s tough approach for the dramatic turnaround. Trump didn’t just talk about border security—he acted. He deployed troops to the border, empowered the Texas National Guard to assist in enforcement, and put an end to Biden’s disastrous catch-and-release policies.
Illegal aliens quickly got the message: border security is being taken seriously again. Trump shut down Biden’s phony asylum system, revoked Temporary Protected Status for illegal aliens, and took swift action to close the loopholes that had allowed migrants to flood into the country under the previous administration.
While Biden and Senate RINOs pushed for a fake “border security” bill last year, Trump has once again proven that securing America’s borders was never about legislation—it was about leadership and the will to enforce the law.
