High-profile Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and even Hollywood elites like George Clooney led the charge to push Biden out of the race. The media, once his strongest ally, turned on him as well. The pressure campaign worked.
But in the end, it didn’t matter. Donald Trump crushed Kamala Harris in the election, proving that Biden’s exit didn’t change the inevitable outcome.
Jean-Pierre, speaking at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics, lashed out at those who forced Biden’s hand, painting him as a victim of betrayal.
“I have never seen anything like that,” she complained. “It was truly, truly unfortunate. And I think it hurt us more than folks realized to have done that.”
Her comments are ironic considering she played a leading role in deceiving the public about Biden’s condition. Just before the debate, Jean-Pierre had ordered media outlets to dismiss videos of Biden looking disoriented at the G7 summit and a Los Angeles fundraiser as “cheap fakes.”
The idea that Biden was wronged is widely shared among his inner circle. Former senior advisor Mike Donilon, who also spoke at Harvard, claimed Biden’s debate meltdown was nothing more than a bad night, similar to Barack Obama’s in 2012 or George W. Bush’s in 2004.
“Now, lots of people have terrible debates,” Donilon argued. “Lots of people have terrible debates. Usually, the party doesn’t lose its mind, but that’s what happened here. It melted down.”
Donilon even suggested that it was the Democratic Party—not Biden—that had lost its grip on reality. He went further into fantasy, insisting that Biden was actually gaining ground against Trump after the debate.
“I think the party lost its mind,” he continued. “If you ask people about this period of time, they’ll tell you Biden was losing the polls, he was going to lose. … They were saying this in a margin-of-error race.”
“But that’s what happened, right?” Donilon added. “If you actually go and look at the polling in the first couple of days after the debate, the margin between Trump and Biden got closer. It didn’t get bigger.”

Biden himself has fed into this delusion, telling USA Today that he would have defeated Trump had he stayed in the race—while simultaneously admitting he was too old to serve another term.
“When Trump was running again for re-election, I really thought I had the best chance of beating him. But I also wasn’t looking to be president when I was 85 years old, 86 years old,” Biden stated. “But I don’t know. Who the hell knows?”
The Democratic Party spent years covering for Biden, dismissing concerns about his cognitive decline as “conspiracy theories.” But after the debate, the truth was impossible to ignore. The party turned on him not out of principle, but out of sheer political survival.
Jean-Pierre, Donilon, and Biden himself may still be in denial, but the American people saw the truth with their own eyes. And that’s why they overwhelmingly rejected the Democrats at the ballot box.
