Elez resigned, and it was clear the media wanted a scalp. Their ultimate goal? Crippling Musk’s DOGE operation after he helped Trump shut down USAID—a $44 billion deep state slush fund that funneled taxpayer dollars to leftist political groups, fake news outlets, and censorship factories.
Enter J.D. Vance. The Ohio Senator took to social media to blast the media’s witch hunt and called for Elez to be rehired, refusing to let cancel culture claim another victim. “I obviously disagree with some of Elez’s posts, but I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life. We shouldn’t reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever,” Vance declared.
This didn’t sit well with Democrat Congressman Ro Khanna, who seized the moment to score political points by demanding that Elez apologize for a controversial post about Indians before being considered for rehire. “Are you going to tell him to apologize for saying ‘Normalize Indian hate’ before this rehire? Just asking for the sake of both of our kids,” Khanna shot back.
Khanna’s jab hit a personal note. Vance’s wife is Indian, and their children are of Indian descent. It was a low blow that reeked of desperation.
Vance, however, wasn’t having any of it. “For the sake of both of our kids? Grow up. Racist trolls on the internet, while offensive, don’t threaten my kids. You know what does? A culture that denies grace to people who make mistakes. A culture that encourages congressmen to act like whiny children,” Vance retorted.
He didn’t stop there. Vance called out Khanna for using “emotional blackmail” and warned against creating a society where one careless comment can destroy a person’s future. “I cannot overstate how much I loathe this emotional blackmail pretending to be concerned. My kids, god willing, will be risk takers. They won’t think constantly about whether a flippant comment or a wrong viewpoint will follow them around for the rest of their lives,” he added.
Vance stood firm on the principle that young people should be allowed to make mistakes and learn from them, without the fear of being permanently canceled. “They will tell stupid jokes. They will develop views that they later think are wrong or even gross. I made mistakes as a kid, and thank God I grew up in a culture that encouraged me to grow and learn and feel remorse when I screwed up and offer grace when others did,” Vance reflected.

But it was his closing remarks that delivered the final blow. “I don’t worry about my kids making mistakes, or developing views they later regret. I don’t even worry that much about trolls on the internet. You know what I do worry about, Ro? That they’ll grow up to be a US Congressmen who engages in emotional blackmail over a kid’s social media posts. You disgust me.”
Vance’s unapologetic defense of Elez and his blistering takedown of Khanna sent shockwaves through the political landscape. Once again, J.D. Vance proved that when the left comes swinging, he punches back twice as hard.
