Jan Schakowsky Drops a SHOCKING Take on Manufacturing Jobs!

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) sparked widespread debate after offering an unusual explanation for the low number of women pursuing careers in manufacturing. During a Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade subcommittee hearing on Wednesday titled “AI in Manufacturing: Securing American Leadership in Manufacturing and the Next Generation of Technologies,” Schakowsky suggested that the term “manufacturing” itself might be a barrier for women.

“Yesterday, I met with a manufacturing company, but they also are engaged in getting young people more engaged in manufacturing. I asked them, ‘How many of those students that are signing up and want to do this, how many are women?’” Schakowsky said during the hearing.
