The first arrest captured on camera was a convicted child sex offender and internet predator from Thailand. This individual had been living in Chicago illegally since 2009 and had evaded the mandatory sex offender registry.
Despite his disturbing history, Chicago’s sanctuary city policies ensured he remained free—until ICE intervened.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has been one of the loudest voices against Trump’s deportation efforts. He has repeatedly pledged to shield illegal aliens from ICE, even those convicted of serious crimes.
During a press conference, a reporter confronted Johnson about the city’s failure to remove a convicted sex offender who had been living illegally in Chicago for over a decade. The reporter asked:
“Tom Homan showed up in Chicago and within 24 hours found a convicted sex offender who has been living in our city since 2009, flouting the sex offender registry. If he can do this, why can’t you?”
Rather than taking responsibility, Johnson attempted to deflect.
“Because that’s their job,” Johnson said. “That is their job. The federal government has a responsibility to make sure that individuals who are undocumented who have been charged with, convicted of, a crime, it is the federal government’s responsibility to do their part to uphold the law.”
Johnson’s refusal to take action sends a clear message: protecting illegal aliens is a higher priority than ensuring the safety of law-abiding Chicago residents.

Homan has long warned about the dangers of sanctuary cities, and this incident provided yet another example of those concerns becoming reality.
Chicago’s strict sanctuary laws prevent local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE, making it nearly impossible to remove dangerous criminals. In this case, after his initial arrest, Chicago authorities released the convicted child predator back onto the streets instead of notifying ICE.
Speaking about the situation, Homan didn’t hold back:
“We got an illegal alien, convicted of sex crimes involving children. He’s walking the streets of Chicago,” Homan said. “Again, the downfall, the problems with the sanctuary city—people like this walking the streets, rather than local law enforcement working with federal agents. This is what we’re dealing with.”
And the consequences of these policies continue to mount.
Just days after Johnson defended Chicago’s sanctuary city stance, another gruesome crime involving illegal aliens rocked the city. Two illegal aliens who crossed the southern border in 2023 were arrested for the brutal murder of a 63-year-old man inside his home.
Even more disturbing, one of the suspects had previously been arrested for attempting to lure a 13-year-old girl into his home. But, thanks to Chicago’s sanctuary policies, he was released before ICE could detain him.
While Mayor Johnson claims to represent the people of Chicago, his actions tell a different story. His administration’s refusal to cooperate with ICE has allowed criminals to roam free, endangering law-abiding citizens.
Chicago’s crime crisis is spiraling out of control, yet Johnson remains committed to policies that shield dangerous individuals rather than protect the people he was elected to serve.
Homan and other law enforcement experts have repeatedly warned that sanctuary cities create safe havens for criminals. Unfortunately, Chicago residents are now paying the price for their mayor’s refusal to put public safety first.
How many more innocent lives must be lost before Democrat leaders wake up?
