Kinsey Schofield, host of the To Di For Daily podcast, told Fox News that Montecito locals are growing increasingly resentful toward the Sussexes.
“Montecito residents tell me that their disdain is primarily focused on Meghan because she gives off ‘new money energy,’” Schofield revealed. “They don’t believe that Harry and Meghan are financially literate.”
She added that the couple’s string of failed ventures and attempts to reinvent themselves appear “desperate” to many in the neighborhood.
As part of their never-ending quest for relevance, Meghan is launching her Netflix reality series, With Love, Meghan, which was originally slated for January but was delayed to March due to the Los Angeles wildfires. She is also rolling out a lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which will reportedly sell luxury dog treats and jams.
But Montecito locals aren’t impressed.
“Neighbors have a hard time processing why someone would turn their back on tiaras in pursuit of Tupperware,” Schofield noted. “Selling pots and pans with an American Riviera Orchard logo on it just does not compete with state visits with world leaders.”
The backlash isn’t just limited to whispers around town. Vanity Fair spoke with several Montecito residents who openly referred to Harry and Meghan as “local villains.”
The frustration stems from the flood of outsiders the couple has drawn to the once-serene area. British broadcaster Helena Chard confirmed that many Montecito locals feel that their peaceful retreat has been upended by the chaos surrounding the former royals.
“According to several Montecito residents, Harry and Meghan bring negative, unwanted drama to their beautiful area,” Chard said. “This noise is seeping into their once-quiet neighborly area.”
Once a discreet getaway for Hollywood elites, Montecito has now been thrust into the spotlight, and residents blame the Sussexes for the invasion of privacy.

“Montecito, once a hidden jewel, is now on a pedestal due to the Meghan and Harry celebrity association,” Chard continued. “The unwelcomed attention has also highlighted other high-profile Hollywood Montecito residents and draws crowds of voyeurs to the area. They fill the restaurants, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood stars.”
Many locals see a glaring contradiction in the couple’s actions. One neighbor, speaking to Vanity Fair, did not mince words about what they perceive as hypocrisy.
“I still think they’re the most entitled, disingenuous people on the planet,” the neighbor stated. “They moved away from England to get away from the scrutiny of the press, and all they do is try and get in the press in the United States.”
While Harry and Meghan continue to reinvent themselves, one thing is clear—their efforts to win over Hollywood and high society aren’t exactly working. Instead, they seem to be alienating everyone around them, one scandal at a time.
