Former President Donald Trump visited western North Carolina on Friday, bringing a strong message of support to residents still reeling from the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. The hurricane, which struck the region in September, left 219 dead and caused nearly $80 billion in damages. Trump’s visit highlighted his commitment to ensuring a swift recovery for the people of the Tarheel State, while sharply criticizing the Biden administration’s response.
“Abused and Forgotten”
Speaking to reporters shortly after landing, Trump explained why he prioritized North Carolina over other disaster-stricken areas like California. “I’m stopping in North Carolina first because they’ve been abused by what’s happened. I mean, it’s terrible. It should have been done. It should have been — a lot of things should have happened that didn’t happen. So we’re here. We’re going to fix it,” he declared.

Trump wasted no time calling out FEMA for its handling of the disaster, accusing the agency of failing to deliver the necessary aid and resources to the region. “FEMA really let us down, let the country down. And I don’t know if that’s Biden’s fault or whose fault it is, but we’re going to take over and we’re going to do a good job,” he said, promising to take charge of the recovery efforts to ensure federal funds are spent effectively.
