Believing the house was vacated, Hale returned to clean and prepare it for reoccupation. To her dismay, Johnson allegedly re-entered the property, leading to a heated confrontation. During the altercation, Hale reportedly told Johnson to “leave before I get my gun,” a statement captured on cell phone footage and cited in the incident report.

Law enforcement officials responded to the scene and ultimately sided with Johnson. They accused Hale of conducting an “illegal eviction” due to her failure to obtain the necessary writ of possession. Hale was then arrested, while Johnson continued to occupy the home without facing any charges.

Adding insult to injury, body camera footage revealed a deputy urging Hale to consider Johnson’s perspective, stating, “Everybody isn’t as fortunate as you to have a bed. All the little things, a bed in their house, food in the kitchen.”

Hale, however, was far from sympathetic, telling WSB-TV Atlanta, “I spent the night on a mat on a concrete floor in deplorable conditions. While this woman, this squatter slept in my home.”

The incident report further detailed that Hale had allegedly removed Johnson’s belongings during the confrontation, actions deemed unlawful by responding officers.

Despite Johnson’s alleged unlawful re-entry into the home, she has not faced any criminal charges. This glaring disparity in treatment has left Hale and many others questioning the justice system’s handling of the case.
