On the cusp of former President Donald Trump’s anticipated return to the presidency, a bombshell report is shaking up the long-held narrative of the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach. For years, Democrats, anti-Trump Republicans, and mainstream media outlets have pointed fingers at Trump for the day’s chaos. However, a new report accuses then-acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller of defying Trump’s direct orders in the lead-up to the incident.
Trump’s Direct Orders Ignored
The report, titled “On the Failures and Politicization of the January 6 Select Committee,” details shocking revelations about Miller’s actions. According to transcripts from interviews conducted by the Department of Defense Inspector General, Trump’s directive at a January 3, 2021, meeting was clear. General Mark Milley, the then-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recalled Trump’s words:
“Hey, I don’t care if you use Guard, or soldiers, active-duty soldiers, do whatever you have to do. Just make sure it’s safe.”

To most, this would appear to be a straightforward order from the commander-in-chief. Yet, Miller reportedly dismissed it as “banter.” In his own words to investigators, Miller stated, “There was absolutely — there is absolutely no way I was putting U.S. Military forces at the Capitol.”
