“Time Magazine, getting this honor for the second time, I think I like it better this time actually,” he said.

The crowd erupted into chants of “USA” as Trump, joined by his wife Melania, daughters Ivanka and Tiffany, and Vice President-elect JD Vance, rang the bell. Following the moment, he raised his hand in acknowledgment of the applause and excitement.

Trump highlighted his plans for the future during his speech, discussing his administration’s new direction. Among his key points was a commitment to speeding up federal permitting processes for large-scale projects exceeding $1 billion, including environmental permits.

“I think we’re going to have a tremendous run. We have to straighten out some problems, some big problems in the world,” Trump stated confidently.

The president-elect also praised members of his incoming administration, including Treasury Secretary pick Scott Bessent, whom he described as instrumental in carrying out his economic vision.

Sam Jacobs, editor-in-chief of Time magazine, unveiled Trump as the 2024 “Person of the Year” during an appearance on NBC’s Today show. Jacobs cited Trump’s influence on American politics and his historic return to the White House as defining factors for the honor.

“This is someone who made a historic comeback, who reshaped the American presidency and who’s reordering American politics,” Jacobs said. “It’s hard to argue with the fact that the person who’s moving into the Oval Office is the most influential person in news.”

Jacobs also mentioned that while the decision is often hotly debated, this year’s choice was notably straightforward.

Trump’s appearance at the NYSE was marked by a patriotic display. A massive projection of the Time magazine cover featuring Trump graced the stock exchange wall, flanked by American flags. His favorite anthem, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” played as he stood surrounded by his family and members of his incoming administration.

The day’s events followed Trump’s announcement that Kari Lake would serve as the new director of Voice of America (VOA), the federally funded international broadcasting network.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Lake’s background as a beloved news anchor in Arizona, a state that delivered him “record margins” of support.

“Lake will work with the next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media,” Trump wrote.

Lake expressed her gratitude on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “I am honored that President Trump has asked me to lead the Voice of America. @VOANews is a vital international media outlet dedicated to advancing the interests of the United States by engaging directly with people across the globe and promoting democracy and truth.”

VOA, established in 1942, was originally designed to counter Nazi propaganda with unbiased news and information. It remains a key part of U.S. public diplomacy, broadcasting in over 40 languages to a weekly global audience of more than 354 million people.

As the nation watches Trump’s comeback unfold, his leadership decisions and policy directions continue to shape headlines, both at home and abroad.
