“I do things that don’t necessarily make me so popular. I just do what’s right,” Trump shared with Rogan. “You make yourself a target, and it’s a very dangerous business. I never thought of that when I did it.”

The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, fired eight rounds, one of which grazed Trump’s right ear. The tragic incident prompted outrage, as Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after just ten days due to bipartisan criticism over the agency’s handling of the attack.

Less than two months later, Trump faced another near-fatal incident when an armed individual was apprehended at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The suspect, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was discovered with an AR-style rifle, lying in wait behind a hedgerow, just yards away from the former president.

Secret Service agents noticed the barrel of the rifle sticking out from the bushes and quickly intervened. Though Routh fled the scene, he was arrested shortly after. Trump’s close call highlighted the serious risks he faces both in public and private moments.

During the interview, Trump didn’t shy away from showing Rogan the scar left by Crooks’ bullet, jokingly calling it a “top shot” that only added to his toughness. “It zicked right there,” Trump said, pointing to the area behind his right ear.

Rogan, known for his colorful commentary, remarked, “It healed up pretty f—king good,” in response to seeing the mark.

Trump continued, downplaying the injury but acknowledging the gravity of the situation. “It’s not like some of the wrestlers, some of the UFC fighters… it was sort of like a top shot. The thing’s taken off a little bit,” Trump said, adding, “But it makes me a tougher guy.”

Rogan, 57, brought up a controversial point during the interview, suggesting that the intense rhetoric from the media and political opponents could be fueling violent actions against Trump. He pointed fingers at Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton, for comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler and painting him as a fascist.

“They love to take things out of context and distort them,” Rogan said. “The rhetoric is that you’re Hitler, and in order to stop Hitler, you have to do whatever it takes.”

Trump didn’t shy away from agreeing with Rogan’s assessment, sharing his frustration with how the media and political elites have portrayed him. He pointed out that such hostile characterizations only serve to embolden dangerous individuals, making the role of the president even riskier.

The conversation between Trump and Rogan covered more than just security threats. Trump took a reflective tone as he spoke about his life before politics, detailing his success as a businessman and TV personality. He emphasized that he had no initial intentions of running for president but felt compelled to step into the political arena after being polled.

“I had a very wonderful life, but I wanted to do this,” Trump said. He added that producers of The Apprentice had offered to extend his contract, but his political aspirations took precedence. “Somehow, they put me in a poll, and I blew everybody away,” Trump said, referencing his unexpected win over Clinton in the 2016 presidential race.

The interview, filmed at Trump’s studio in Austin, Texas, is one of many podcast appearances he has made recently. Trump has been engaging with audiences across multiple platforms, including a viral streaming event with tech mogul Elon Musk in August, which garnered significant attention.

With the 2024 presidential race heating up, Trump remains in a close battle with Kamala Harris, as polling shows them neck and neck in key swing states. The former president’s interview with Rogan is expected to galvanize his base as he continues his push toward a potential second term in office.
