A newly leaked video has sparked outrage, exposing what many critics call politically driven priorities within the Biden-Harris administration’s disaster response efforts. In the footage, taken during a FEMA meeting earlier this year, officials appear to focus more on “disaster equity” than addressing the immediate needs of all victims in crisis situations. This controversial clip has come to light at a critical time—following Hurricane Helene’s deadly path across the Southeast in late September.
The clip, recorded in March 2023, shows FEMA Emergency Management Specialist Tyler Atkins, who uses he/they pronouns, stating that LGBTQIA+ communities would be prioritized in disaster relief. Atkins argued that members of these communities are “already disadvantaged,” suggesting that they need extra attention during disasters to ensure equitable treatment.

“They already have their own things to deal with. So you add a disaster on top of that, it’s just compounding on itself,” Atkins can be heard saying during the virtual meeting.
