In an emotional tribute ahead of his return to Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump is honoring the legacy of Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter tragically killed during a rally held in the same town last July. The display of Comperatore’s firefighting gear in the very bleachers where he sat during that fateful day serves as a poignant reminder of his heroism. Comperatore’s actions on July 13, where he shielded his daughter amid gunfire, have left an indelible mark on the community and on the hearts of his fellow Trump supporters.
Comperatore, a beloved firefighter from Buffalo, Pennsylvania, lost his life when a 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire from a rooftop near the rally. The initial shots critically injured two other Trump supporters, Jim Copenhaver and David Dutch. As bullets flew, Comperatore urged his family to take cover, protecting them at great personal risk. In the second round of gunfire, Comperatore was fatally struck in the head, despite the valiant efforts of a nearby doctor to save his life.

Since the tragedy, Comperatore’s memory has been honored at various events, most notably at the Republican National Convention, where Trump himself paused his speech to pay tribute. The former president even kissed Comperatore’s firefighting helmet on stage, acknowledging his sacrifice and service. Now, Trump is returning to Butler for a rally in honor of Comperatore’s life and to pay homage to the first responders and civilians affected by the attack.
