In a scandal that has shaken Jackson City, Mississippi, Councilwoman Angelique Lee faces serious legal trouble after being charged with bribery over the summer. Lee, who represented Ward 2, was caught accepting thousands of dollars in cash along with high-end luxury items like shoes, handbags, and other gifts. In exchange, she allegedly agreed to use her position on the city council to favor certain donors. The bribes were part of an FBI undercover operation aimed at rooting out corruption within local government.
Court documents revealed that between February 2024 and March 2024, Angelique Lee accepted bribes totaling $19,000. These bribes were not just in cash but also in the form of designer luxury goods, such as Valentino shoes, a Christian Louboutin bag, and Louboutin sandals. The money and items came from an unindicted co-conspirator, who worked with two undercover FBI agents posing as real estate developers from Nashville, Tennessee.

The FBI agents convinced Lee to support their fictitious real estate development project, which included shutting down a road and approving a hotel at the Jackson Convention Complex. In return for her votes and support, she received the bribes, ultimately leading to her downfall. The FBI’s sting was designed to mimic real-life business dealings, and Lee, unfortunately, took the bait.
