Musk, known for his innovative approach to business and technology, has reportedly been in discussions with Trump about the role. According to Trump, Musk has agreed to take on the position for free, driven by a shared desire to eliminate wasteful government practices. “He’s going to do it for zero. He doesn’t want anything,” Trump assured the crowd.
Musk, who has become one of Trump’s most high-profile backers, has used his platform on X (formerly known as Twitter) to rally support for the former president’s policies. The billionaire’s vast social media reach has been an asset to Trump’s campaign, particularly among younger and tech-savvy voters. Musk has frequently expressed concerns about government inefficiency and has hinted at his desire to see fiscal reform take place.
Trump’s decision to highlight Musk as a key part of his future administration comes as no surprise to many political insiders. The former president praised Musk’s business acumen and determination to fight unnecessary spending. “It’s going to be incredible, what he’ll be able to do, without hurting anybody — just waste. It’s waste, fraud, and abuse,” Trump stated, underscoring that Musk’s involvement would result in a stronger and more fiscally responsible America.
Meanwhile, a Super PAC with strong backing from Musk is launching a wave of digital ads in support of Trump, targeting critical swing states. The ads have been strategically designed to appeal to undecided voters in states like Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin.
One ad warns of dire consequences should voters fail to support Trump, stating, “If you sit this election out, Kamala and the crazies will win. You will be stuck with higher costs and more illegals invading our country.” The ad, which has garnered millions of views on YouTube, frames Trump as a fighter, depicting him pumping his fist in the air following an alleged assassination attempt earlier in the year.
In addition, another ad running on Meta’s Facebook features a provocative message aimed at Arizona voters, declaring, “Arizona families have had ENOUGH of radical liberals.” The messaging is clear: Trump is the only leader capable of fighting back against what the ad calls “the radical left.”
Musk’s Super PAC, which has poured significant funds into these digital efforts, is reportedly responsible for much of the ad strategy. A Bloomberg report revealed that ads have evolved since the alleged assassination attempt on Trump, now focusing on painting the former president as a defiant leader. With the slogan “American Badass” and a now-iconic photo of Trump raising his fist in defiance, the ads seek to galvanize support among conservative voters.
“We must STOP Kamala while we can,” reads another ad, suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party pose an imminent threat to the country. In one of the more controversial ads, a voice with a Russian accent mocks Harris, referring to her as “Comrade Kamala,” and implying that her policies are akin to those of the Soviet Union.

Musk’s public endorsement of Trump has only intensified in recent months. In July, the tech mogul hosted a campaign event for Trump on X, following his vocal support in the aftermath of the alleged assassination attempt. Musk has since become one of Trump’s most significant allies in the 2024 campaign cycle, contributing millions of dollars to his Super PAC and regularly promoting the former president’s agenda to his millions of followers.
The PAC’s advertising campaign, which kicked off in July, initially focused on contrasting Trump’s and Biden’s economic policies. One ad emphasized Trump’s plan to “unleash the production of domestic energy resources” and ensure America’s energy independence. However, in the weeks since, the messaging has shifted toward attacks on Harris and a broader critique of liberal policies.
With Musk in Trump’s corner and actively contributing to his campaign, the former president’s strategy heading into the 2024 election appears to lean heavily on the narrative of fiscal reform, national strength, and resistance to liberal ideologies. If Trump is successful, Musk’s role as a government “cost-cutter” could become one of the most pivotal appointments in a new administration aimed at reshaping the U.S. economy.
