A fresh investigation into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s extensive connections to China is now underway. The probe, initiated by America First Legal, aims to shed light on Walz’s multi-decade relationship with the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The legal group announced their investigation in a press release this week, raising concerns about the potential influence China has wielded over the Minnesota governor.
On August 16, 2024, the House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), launched a congressional investigation into Gov. Walz’s ties to the Chinese government. Comer’s investigation delves into Walz’s frequent visits to China, which reportedly number more than 30 trips. Between 1991 and 2003, Walz managed a for-profit company, Travel Adventures Inc., that organized trips for American children to visit China. Comer’s report also highlights that Walz served as a fellow at Macau Polytechnic University, an institution known for its devotion to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

These visits and affiliations raise serious questions about the depth of Walz’s relationship with Chinese officials. Comer’s press release pointed to a speech Walz delivered alongside a leader of a Chinese organization that the U.S. State Department identified as part of the CCP’s strategy to co-opt local leaders.
