Hiker’s Nightmare: Co-Workers Remove Trail Markers, Abandon Him

A planned office retreat intended to foster team spirit and camaraderie took a dramatic turn when one of the 15 hikers on the expedition failed to return after a day’s hike up Colorado’s Mount Shavano. What began as a routine adventure on August 23 quickly turned into a tense and nerve-wracking ordeal, ending with a rescue mission the following day.

The group, according to KDVR-TV, had split into two smaller teams, each setting off toward different destinations on the mountain. The individual who would later find himself in trouble was among those aiming to reach the summit. However, he decided to hike at his own pace, which would prove to be a costly decision.

As reported by The Washington Post, the Chaffee County Search and Rescue South (CCSAR) disclosed that the lone hiker lost the trail after reaching the summit. His troubles started to mount as he became disoriented and realized that the trail markers, which his fellow hikers had removed after descending, were no longer there to guide him.
