However, recent reports suggest that this portrayal might be far from the truth.
Tran, 43, is a fresh face in the political arena, hoping to unseat the incumbent Steel in a district where Asian Americans, particularly those of Vietnamese descent, represent a significant portion of the electorate. His campaign has emphasized his cultural and linguistic connection to the community, with the New York Post even describing him as “the only candidate that speaks fluent Vietnamese.”

However, this assertion is now under fire. During a February 23 interview with Saigon Entertainment Television, a California-based, Vietnamese-language TV station, Tran’s linguistic capabilities were put to the test — and they appeared to falter. When asked a question in Vietnamese about his military service, Tran responded in English, discussing his legal career instead. The interviewer had to remind him of the question, highlighting his apparent difficulty with the language.
