In a recent survey that could shape the narrative of the upcoming election, former President Donald Trump received a boost in a battleground state crucial to the 2024 race. The poll, conducted by Elon College between August 2 and August 9, revealed that Trump holds a slight edge over Vice President Kamala Harris in North Carolina. With the Democratic National Convention just around the corner, the results highlight a competitive and divided electorate.
The survey, which sampled 800 registered voters, found that Trump leads Harris by a narrow margin of 46-44 percent. Despite this lead, the poll also showed that both candidates are viewed unfavorably by the majority of respondents, signaling a challenging road ahead for either party. According to Professor Jason Husser, director of the Elon University Poll, “Our favorability data shows Trump and Harris with competitive levels of support,” indicating that the race remains far from decided.

The favorability breakdown offers further insights into the dynamics at play. Trump enjoys significant support among men, with 50% approving of his leadership, while Harris lags at 39% among the same demographic. In contrast, Harris holds a slight advantage among women, with 47% viewing her favorably compared to 43% for Trump. This gender divide highlights the different challenges each candidate faces in appealing to various voter blocs.
