The investigation into Walz’s ties to China comes on the heels of a recent report by Fox News host Jesse Watters, who highlighted the governor’s frequent visits to China. Watters’ report revealed that Walz, who has visited mainland China at least 30 times since his career as a suburban school teacher, has long-standing connections with the country. His first visit, which occurred in 1989 and was funded by Harvard University, coincided with the infamous Tiananmen Square protests and massacre. Upon his return, Watters claims that Walz “spread Chinese propaganda” and quoted Walz as saying, “I was treated exceptionally well… They are such kind, generous, capable people. They just gave and gave and gave to me. Going there was one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
Watters also pointed out the curious timing of Walz’s marriage to Gwen Walz, which took place on April 15th, 1994—exactly five years to the day after the Tiananmen Square riots. While this may be a coincidence, it adds another layer of intrigue to the investigation.
In the years following his initial trip, Walz founded a travel company that specialized in educational tours for American high school students visiting China. This venture, too, was reportedly funded by the Chinese government, raising further questions about the nature of his connections to the CCP. According to Watters, during these trips, Walz was affectionately known by Chinese children as the “big-nosed one” and “foreign devil.” Walz even learned some Mandarin, and to this day, he maintains ties with Chinese-American organizations that have close links to intelligence arms of the communist regime led by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
One such organization, the Chinese Friendship Organization, hosted Walz for a speech in 2019, a year after he was first elected governor. This appearance, coupled with his extensive travel history and connections to Chinese institutions, has fueled suspicions about his true allegiances.

How can a guy visit China 30 times and pal around with [Chinese communists] and have Chinese money change hands and you say to yourself ‘I want that guy in the Situation Room with me.’”
