In a chilling development, authorities have uncovered the final online activity of Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old man who recently attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. FBI investigators discovered that Crooks’ last online search was for pornography, according to sources who spoke with the Daily Beast.
Crooks’ encrypted Samsung phone initially posed a significant challenge for investigators at the Pittsburgh field office, necessitating the device’s transfer to Quantico for further analysis. Despite the difficulty, FBI agents successfully accessed the phone, revealing both the pornography search and a series of texts from Crooks’ parents.

The texts from Crooks’ parents expressed concern about his whereabouts, fearing he had taken one of his father’s AR-15-style rifles to a local shooting range. Investigators also found that in the days leading up to the attack, Crooks had looked up information about Trump and President Joe Biden.
Six days after the failed assassination attempt, the FBI has largely completed its examination of Crooks’ mobile device and is now focusing on his desktop computers and external storage devices found in his bedroom. The New York Post reported that agents discovered a troubling digital trail, including searches related to the Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley and other mass shooting perpetrators.
