In a surprising turn of events, one of President Joe Biden’s staunchest allies has expressed significant disappointment with the administration’s latest efforts to address a critical election issue. During a recent airing of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher criticized the President for his handling of immigration, suggesting that a new executive order on the matter was too little, too late.
President Biden recently signed an executive order that puts a temporary halt on new asylum requests once daily migrant crossings reach an average of 2,500 over a week. This move comes after prolonged periods of Biden stating his limitations in dealing with the immigration dilemma. Maher pointed out the political implications of such a decision, noting, “I think if Biden loses this election, it’s gonna be because of two things,” referring to Biden’s age and the contentious issue of immigration.

The comedian elaborated on the executive order, which strikingly mirrors an attempt by former President Donald Trump that was blocked by the courts. Maher’s criticism highlighted the order’s provision to cap the number of asylum seekers and automatically “close the club” if this cap is exceeded by even one person, only to resume standard procedures when numbers decrease.
