Dr. Anthony Fauci, the influential former health advisor to the White House during the COVID-19 crisis, was questioned intensively in a congressional hearing about the effectiveness and scientific backing of the pandemic restrictions he once championed. This session, held on Monday, was particularly focused on unearthing new insights about the origins of the coronavirus.
Ahead of the session, House Republicans released several transcripts indicating that Dr. Fauci had no knowledge of any scientific studies supporting the six-foot social distancing guideline. During the proceedings, when asked about the origin of this specific guideline, Dr. Fauci responded ambiguously, “You know, I don’t recall. It just sort of appeared.” Further probed about his knowledge of the scientific evidence behind this rule, he confessed, “I was not aware of any studies that — in fact, that would be a very difficult study to do.”
