Eugene, Oregon – In a display that captured both support and controversy, Aayden Gallagher, a transgender teen, triumphed in the women’s 200 meter dash at the Oregon State Track and Field Championships, held at the iconic Hayward Field. Gallagher, a tenth grader and biological male, has become a focal point in the ongoing debate over transgender athletes in sports.
Aayden, who is also recognized as one of the top 50 high school sprinters in the nation, competed under Oregon’s inclusive sports policies. These regulations permit transgender and nonbinary athletes to participate in sports categories aligning with their gender identity, without requiring medical or hormonal transitions.

These officials have urged the Oregon State Activities Association (OSAA) to reevaluate its policies concerning transgender athletes.
