White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Fox News contributor Peter Doocy engaged in a heated confrontation last week. Doocy, who is well-known for his incisive questions that test the administration, placed Jean-Pierre on the defensive by comparing Donald Trump’s and Joe Biden’s border policy.
Doocy’s inquiry, which referenced an Axios article, highlighted the administration’s deliberation of legal actions resembling Trump’s divisive policies, such the “Muslim ban” and stringent border restrictions. Jean-Pierre was slightly startled by this question, breaking the normal calmness he’d seen in White House briefings.

“President Biden has promised a more humane border policy than Trump. So why would he even be considering now a border policy that is more similar to Trump?” Doocy pressed.
In answer, Jean-Pierre asked for explanation. “What border policy are you talking about?” which Doocy answered, “Axios is reporting that the legal authority Biden is considering using powered Trump’s Muslim ban and similar sweeping restrictions at the border.”
