$1,000 cheques were given to unauthorized immigrants in Washington state by federal COVID funding to whom they were not eligible for federal economic impact payments connected to the pandemic because of their immigration status.
The allocations from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (SLFRF), which was created by the American Rescue Plan Act to assist state and local governments in reacting to and recovering from the COVID-19 epidemic, are disclosed in a study published by the Economic Policy Innovation Center (EPIC). Washington state received $4.4 billion from the program overall.
The analysis conducted by the group that supports a more limited role for the federal government focused on the $340 million that was given to a program that gave $1,000 cheques to illegal residents of the state.
