During the build-up to the fight, Sean Strickland, the former middleweight champion of the UFC, expressed his opinions about Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau. Strickland voiced his displeasure with the leader by arguing with a reporter whom he thought was siding with Trudeau.
Alexander K. Lee, the reporter for MMA, questioned Strickland over his prior “anti-gay” and “transphobic” remarks. The reporter failed to respond when Strickland asked if Lee had voted for Trudeau. “A man says he’s not going to say, like you ask a motherfuer; ‘Did you vote for Biden?’ He’s like, ‘well, I’m not going to say, that’s none of your business.’ He voted for fing Biden,” Strickland said.

He made the startling claim that the reporter was a “infection” and that they were to blame for all of the issues facing the contemporary society. Left-leaning MMA writers were incensed by this and called for his suspension.
