Haley Denied: Trump’s Unexpected VP Twist

Former US President Donald Trump appeared to rule out selecting former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley to be his vice presidential nominee during a speech to his supporters in Concord, New Hampshire.

With the New Hampshire primary drawing near, Trump and Haley are having increasingly heated arguments. Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida put up a fierce fight, but Haley prevailed in Iowa and has since committed a great deal of time and energy to the Granite State. In addition, Haley has the endorsement of Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire and is routinely polling strongly second, with Trump leading the field.

On Friday night, Trump remarked of Haley, “She is not presidential timber.” He went on, to applause from the audience, “Now, when I say that, that probably means that she’s not going to be chosen as the vice president.”

“Now, you can go, you can go and you can say certain things, you know, ‘I don’t like them and this.’ But when you say certain things, it sort of takes them out of play, right? I can’t say, ‘she’s not of the timber to be a vice-‘ And then say, ‘ladies and gentlemen, I’m proud to announce that I’ve picked…’ Do you understand?”

Although Trump has previously alluded to a possible alliance with Haley, his remarks on Friday were the most unambiguous and direct he has made on the subject to date.

Well-known Trump supporters, such as Steve Bannon and Tucker Carlson, fiercely disagree with the idea of a Trump-Haley alliance and have pleaded with the former president to avoid it.

Bannon recently told Sean Spicer that he thinks Trump will pick a female running mate, but he stressed that the America First movement should not pick Nikki Haley. Carlson added his thoughts as well, recommending that the former president take Vivek Ramaswamy into account instead.

Ramaswamy has emerged as a formidable contender for the vice presidential position. He swiftly demonstrated his support for Trump after withdrawing from the presidential contest in Iowa, and he enthusiastically rallied for him during their campaign in New Hampshire.

In addition to Ramaswamy, Tucker Carlson has been floated as a potential contender; Donald Trump Jr. has voiced his enthusiastic endorsement of the notion. Other candidates under consideration are Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, and former U.S. delegates.
