According to a recent report by the House Judiciary Committee, banks were told by federal investigators to closely monitor customer transactions, with a focus on phrases like “MAGA” and “Trump.”
In the course of probing the events of January 6, a committee chaired by Jim Jordan (R-OH) has discovered records that demonstrate the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) of the Treasury Department directed financial institutions to be alert for indications of “extremism.”

The transactions listed on the signs included purchases from well-known stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Cabela’s, and Bass Pro Shops, as well as unexplained travel fees and religious materials.
“According to this analysis, FinCEN warned financial institutions of ‘extremism’ indicators that include ‘transportation charges, such as bus tickets, rental cars, or plane tickets, for travel areas with no apparent purpose,’ or ‘the purchase of books (including religious texts) and subscriptions to other media containing extremist views,’” Jordan corresponded with Noah Bishoff, a longtime employee and former director of FinCEN.
“In other words, FinCEN used large financial institutions to comb through the private transactions of their customers for suspicious charges on the basis of protected political and religious expression,” Jordan asserted.
Fox News Digital was informed by an informed source that “the effort by FinCEN to work with law enforcement to assist with their post January 6 efforts began under the previous administration.” The federal authorities used this data for investigations that went beyond January 6, the source also disclosed.
“Despite these transactions having no apparent criminal nexus — and, in fact, relate to Americans exercising their Second Amendment rights — FinCEN seems to have adopted a characterization of these Americans as potential threat actors,” wrote Jordan.
“This kind of pervasive financial surveillance, carried out in coordination with and at the request of federal law enforcement, into Americans’ private transactions is alarming and raises serious doubts about FinCEN’s respect for fundamental liberties.”
Jordan further requested that Bishoff get in touch with the committee and set up a time for a transcripted interview by January 31. Nevertheless, Bishoff declined to respond when contacted by Fox News.

Jordan said that Steve Jensen, the section leader of the Domestic Terrorism Operations Section at the time, made the decision to “pull” that Bank of America data from FBI computers when the FBI became aware of a certain list. Jordan stated that the rationale behind this action was because “the leads lacked allegations of federal criminal conduct.”
Jordan disclosed that particular search query words were shared by FBI employees, including Sullivan, with Bank of America, according to papers the committees have seen.
These terms stated that the FBI was interested in “all financial relationships” with Bank of America customers who transacted business in Washington, D.C., those who had purchased firearms “ANY historical purchase,” and those who had purchased airline tickets, hotel stays, or Airbnb stays within a specific time frame.
Jordan also said that the committees had obtained records showing that FBI employees working in the Office of Private Sector had produced an official report. Certain political ideas were identified in this analysis as being unmistakably indicative of possible domestic violent extremism.
To these discoveries, the Treasury Department has not yet responded. However, it is important to note that this monitoring operation was started by the previous government.
