According to data recently released by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), there were 17 incidents in November involving people who were on the FBI’s terror watch list being encountered between ports of entry at the southern border.
For the fiscal year 2024, which began in October, the Border Patrol has encountered thirty people between ports of entry who are on the watch list.
The watch list, which is now formally known as the Terrorist Screening Dataset, is the American database that holds details on terrorist identities. It comprises affiliations of people who are on the watch list in addition to known or suspected terrorists.
In fiscal year 2023, the number of people encountered at the southern border who were on terror watchlists surpassed 160, setting a new record. As a point of comparison, fewer than 100 of these interactions occurred in 2022.
There is a greater chance that prospective terrorists will infiltrate the United States due to the growing number of undocumented immigrants coming through the southern border. Surprisingly, most people who cross the border are just let into the nation without being held accountable.
