Among the New Jersey Democrats accused of election fraud in the 2020 ward council contests are Alex Mendez, the president of Patterson City Council, and his spouse, who also serves as his campaign manager.
State detectives unearth a startling conspiracy involving electoral fraud. According to Attorney General Matthew Platkin, the Mendez campaign stole and destroyed negative votes in addition to unlawfully gathering and mailing ballots. Read our exclusive story to learn the startling information.
The lawsuit also includes allegations against the councilman’s supporter, campaign manager, and wife.
“The defendants are accused of attempting to rig an election in their favor and to deprive the voters of Paterson of having their voices heard,” Platkin stated upon the charges’ announcement. “The functioning of democracy relies on voters’ trust that their votes count and those votes determine the outcomes of elections.”

Controversy has been generated by unsealed mail-in votes that the Mendez campaign has gathered. These ballots are said to have been checked at the Mendez campaign headquarters to see if they were cast in his favor. The state is currently looking into the situation.
Vibrant claims of ballot manipulation have emerged, exposing an astonishing scheme to rig the results. The attorney general’s office said that Mendez’s wife threatened to damage and replace the ballot, sabotaging the voter’s decision if they didn’t choose him. Moreover, campaign participants are accused of falsly completing blank ballots.
Mendez and his fellow defendants are accused of trying to disrupt the investigation and interfering with witnesses.
Perhaps as a result of accusations of tampering, an indictment was filed following a protracted 41-month inquiry. The executive director of the attorney general’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, Thomas Eicher, provided this update.

“I’m grateful for the many additional months of work the investigative team invested in pursuing evidence of potential witness tampering,” Eicher said. “Their efforts uncovered more illegal conduct by these defendants, culminating in these new charges.”
Mendez has refuted the claims and stated that he is “looking forward to” his “day in court.”
“This is unfair,” Mendez said Wednesday. “They rushed to charge me four years ago, and when they knew those charges weren’t working and were going nowhere, they charge me with something else.”
Two defendants in a 2020 election fraud case no longer face charges. Charges against Councilman Michael Jackson are still pending. Jackson and the defendants both maintain their innocence.
