Earlier in his lecture, Carson responded to a question on what kind of government the fledgling United States would be ruled by by recounting the well-known tale of Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers. Franklin reportedly said, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”

“The way we can keep it is we put Donald J. Trump back in office,” Carson said.
