Trump’s Sharpie Strike: “Better Luck Next Time!”

In a unique way, former president Donald Trump parodied a tweet from Capitol reporter Jake Sherman. With a Sharpie in hand, Trump comically edited Sherman’s tweet, capping off the fun with the snarky “Better Luck Next Time, Jake!”

Trump’s recommendations fell short of expectations. Jake Sherman emphasized Jordan and Banks’ defeats in spite of Trump’s backing. Additionally, he pointed out that Emmer was only behind by 26 votes before to Trump’s criticism of him, suggesting that Trump’s meddling may have made Emmer’s situation worse.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who supports Trump, jumps into the discussion and challenges Sherman using Trump’s proof, implying that his facts are incorrect and advising him to “get [his] story straight.”

Following a fierce 22-day competition, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was chosen to serve as the next Speaker of the US House of Representatives. Drama is increased by Trump’s involvement and the selection process’s roller coaster.

Trump remarked, “I just want to congratulate Mike Johnson. He will be a great Speaker of the House, and we were very happy to help. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a tremendous leader. He’s a tremendous man.”

“He comes from a wonderful place, Louisiana … He’s going to be a great speaker – I think you’re going to be very proud of him,” he finished.

Being elected by a unanimous vote for the Republican speaker post for the first time since John Boehner’s victory in 2011 makes Johnson’s selection an exceptional and uncommon accomplishment. Prominent members of the GOP, such as former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, were praised and accorded standing ovations for their support of the newly elected Speaker.

Similar to McCarthy, Johnson’s route to the Speaker’s office was paved with unforeseen detours. Tom Emmer (R-MN), who had previously won the conference nomination, withdrew from the campaign as a result of a barrage of negative reactions from his party and condemnation from Trump. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) had trouble assembling mainstream Republicans’ backing before Emmer.
