Just three months before to Hamas terrorists infiltrating Israeli territory in trucks and paragliders and murdering hundreds of people, a former representative of the European Union to the Gaza Strip tweeted a video of himself doing “the first Gaza paragliding flight in history.”
An audacious ambassador named Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff made a daring declaration earlier this year by leaping into the air and yelling, “Free Palestine!” Von Burgsdorff informed the residents of Gaza in a motivational video message that they will soon be able to partake in exhilarating activities like paragliding and kayaking.
“First Gaza paragliding flight in history!” The diplomat bragged while grinning. “What does it tell us? You can fly here, you can kayak, you can horse ride, you can swim, you can surf. Everything is possible in Gaza. Once we have free Palestine and free Gaza, you can do exactly the same thing. And that’s the reason why I did this. To show you the way forward. And we worked for it, okay?”
Recent paragliding flights have been connected to the tragic October 7 assaults, despite being recreational in character. Over 1,400 Israelis have lost their lives as a result of these attacks. Israel has responded by declaring war on Hamas and is now prepared to invade the country on foot with the intention of “exterminating” the group, according to Israeli Defense Forces officials.
The video of a former ambassador is widely criticized and accused of supporting Hamas. The “proactive” action arming militants is condemned by the Israeli government.
“The European diplomat forgot a long time ago that he represents the European Union and its member states,” In a statement, the Israeli foreign ministry stated. “[He] continues to represent the Palestinian narrative and to be a propaganda tool in the hands of the terrorist organizations that control Gaza.”
A spokeswoman for the European Union confirms that von Burgsdoff was the owner of the paraglider used in the risky action.

Despite leaving his position in Gaza in August of last year, the ambassador has continued to criticize the Israeli government and the measures it has taken to address the assaults. “It cannot be that Israel has carte blanche because terrible acts, cruel and shocking acts happened to 1,000 or even 1,200 Israelis,” According to von Burgsdorff in a current radio broadcast. “This is not the excuse you can use to flatten Gaza.”
