As per The Gateway Pundit, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) makes a daring bid for Speaker of the House.
“We are at a critical crossroad in our nation’s history. Now is the time for our Republican conference to come together to keep our promise to Americans. The problems we face are challenging, but they are not insurmountable. We can focus on the changes that improve the country and unite us in offering real solutions. But no matter what we do, we must do it together as a conference,” Chairman Jordan wrote.
“I respectfully ask for your support for Speaker of the House of Representatives,” Rep. Jordan wrote a letter to his fellow lawmakers.
As Rep. Jim Jordan reveals his private meeting with former President Donald Trump, his campaign for Speaker of the House takes an unusual turn.
Jordan, a fervent Trump fan, refuses to disclose if the former President supports his campaign. He did, however, call their chat “great.”
“I talked to the president about this and all kinds of issues,” Jordan said. “I don’t want to say anything, but I had a great conversation with the president.”
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), whose prospective expulsion from the Republican Conference has been a topic of discussion, was also brought up by Jordan. Gaetz has come under fire for his part in Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) ouster from the Speaker’s position. Jordan declared that he will oppose any moves to remove Gaetz and called him a “talented member of Congress.”
“I don’t think that’s warranted,” Jordan said. “We’ve got a four-seat majority; Matt’s a talented member of Congress. I disagree with what he did … but he’s a great member of our committee. … I think we’ve got to come together.”
Jordan refused to commit to modifying the House rules that permit a single member to propose a resolution to oust the Speaker. “That’s a conference decision,” he added, adding that he would accept any changes made to the regulation by the league.
