Older women and a man were found guilty of blocking access to an abortion clinic. In an unexpected verdict, Jean Marshall, 73, Joan Bell, 74, and Jonathan Darnel, 41, were all found guilty.
Older women might receive a 10-year prison sentence for the event that occurred on October 22. Each defendant faces a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $350,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and the FBI Washington Field Office have joined forces to announce the convictions of the defendants in a ground-breaking partnership. A major felony conspiracy against rights as well as a FACE Act violation are among the allegations. This represents a significant triumph for justice!
In court, the defendants planned to stop the clinic from offering reproductive health services. Co-conspirators Marshall and Bell came to Washington, D.C., to take part in a roadblock that was planned by a different person and aired on Facebook.
Marshall, Bell, and a handful of activists cleverly utilized their bodies, furniture, shackles, and ropes to form a blockage at the clinic, it was discovered during the trial. Darnel, in the meantime, live-streamed the events on social media to capture their daring deeds and spread the word. According to the prosecution, their actions—which included physical impediments—amounted to a violation of the FACE Act because they forcibly interfered with a patient seeking reproductive health care as well as the clinic’s staff members.
A ground-breaking development: There are five other co-conspirators who were found guilty of similar offenses in August 2023, making it not just one case. In addition, a crucial defendant by the name of Jay Smith had previously pled guilt and received a sentence of 10 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. You must not miss this opportunity, without a doubt!
A discussion has erupted on social media in response to the elderly campaigners’ rapid imprisonment. On Twitter, Julie Kelly voiced her shock and said, “My God. A DC jury just convicted 2 70+ year-old pro-life activists and a DC judge immediately ordered them into custody.” She also brought up a possible conflict of interest, pointing out that U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves’ wife is a well-known advocate for abortion rights.

Greg Price, a different pundit, mockingly said of the convictions, “It’s good to see the Biden DOJ removing these hardened criminals from our streets.”
