They tried to remove Trump from power by jailing Trump associates and fabricating news for the media, but they were unsuccessful. Surprisingly, despite lying and acting improperly throughout the inquiry, these DOJ crooks have escaped prosecution.
Let me introduce Jack Smith, a prominent candidate for special counsel. By deconstructing the life and political career of the adored Republican Governor Bob McDonnell, Smith rose to fame. As the Republican governor of Virginia from 2010 to 2014, McDonnell was a serious danger to the Democratic Party. Then, on January 21, 2014, Jack Smith charged McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, with receiving improper gifts and loans from a Virginia businessman in connection with federal corruption. On September 4, 2014, a federal jury finally found them guilty on the majority of counts, making McDonnell the first governor of Virginia to be convicted of a crime. On June 27, 2016, the Supreme Court, in a historic 8-0 ruling, unanimously reversed McDonnell’s conviction. But regardless of this decision, Bob was out of time. His political ambitions were dashed, and he vowed never to run for government again.
It wasn’t necessary for Jack Smith to prevail in the McDonnell case. He had to ruin Bob McDonnell’s prospects of winning the presidency. And Jack Smith’s mission was a success.
In the case involving the confidential papers of former President Trump, it was evident who should be appointed as Special Counsel. The team lead by Garland and Joe Biden wanted a competent and tenacious individual to assure that Trump would never again hold the office of President in addition to winning the case against him.
