Former President Donald Trump’s competence to lead the Republican Party into the 2024 presidential elections was initially questioned by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem. But it appears that she has changed her mind lately.
According to CNN, Governor Noem plans to support Trump at a rally in her state on Friday. Speculation regarding her probable position in Trump’s third presidential campaign has been fuelled by this news.
Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota, has declared her decision to not run for president in 2024. Previously, she may have entered the race. She will instead focus all of her time and effort on her state. Noem has, however, recently gained global recognition, stoking rumors that she would be selected as former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2017 presidential election.
“She’s remained in contact and on good terms with the former president, according to sources familiar with their interactions. Though Noem didn’t attend last month’s first Republican presidential debate, ads touting her state’s low taxes and job openings aired during it and since then on Fox News,” CNN reported.
Trump’s connections to Noem also include Corey Lewandowski, who has been providing advice to Noem since 2020 and served as Trump’s trusted campaign manager in the past.
After Trump lost the election, their relationship saw ups and downs, according to CNN. Lewandowski continues to communicate with Trump on a regular basis, and things appear to have stabilized at this point.
“The fact is, none of them can win as long as Trump’s in the race. And that’s just the facts. So why run if you can’t win,” Noem, who has been in touch with Trump and his campaign staff, said of his primary rivals during an interview on Fox News’s “Fox and Friends” last month.
Several other Republican governors have not yet publicly endorsed Trump, despite claims that she is preparing to do so. This might, however, be a foreshadowing of a future involvement in his circle.
Regarding whether she would serve as Donald Trump’s running mate, she recently told Fox News anchor Sean Hannity: “Of course, I would consider it.”

“When [Noem’s] name comes up in conversation, it’s been positive,” one source close to Trump told CNN. “She’s been loyal to him. She’s eloquent, she defends him but doesn’t steal the spotlight.”
Noem has long had political aspirations, according to CNN. She was a candidate for the position of Agriculture secretary under Trump in 2016, but finally decided against it.
She intentionally targeted South Carolina, Iowa, and New Hampshire with digital campaign ads on Facebook during her 2022 reelection campaign. “I think she’s angling to keep all her options open. With everything being so fluid on the national stage, she has been very good about pushing her state as an example during COVID and all of these national hot-button issues. She’s kept her state at the forefront,” Matt Langston, a Republican strategist, told the publication.
“She’s got a bright future. She’s sticking with Trump, which is smart at this stage,” he added.
