According to a statement from the Massachusetts State Police obtained by MassLive, the unnamed paddleboarder attempted to swim to Campbell but regrettably “did not reach him in time.”
The individual successfully swam back to shore after the botched rescue effort, notified someone, and that person immediately dialed 911.
The Daily Mail reports that as of 8:18 p.m., a lady had made the initial 911 call and was now maneuvering a boat in search of Campbell.
Wilson’s Landing, a well-liked paddle board launch location about two miles from the Obamas’ house on Turkeyland Cove, was listed as the call’s origin. The Massachusetts State Police records, which assert that the original call originated from the Obamas’ home, are in conflict with this information.
