Breaking: Trump Has a Big Response to Special Counsel Jack Smith

In a statement on Thursday, the former president Donald Trump forcefully characterized the most recent accusations against him as a severe instance of “election interference at the highest level.”

According to the New York Times, on Thursday, special prosecutor Jack Smith for the Department of Justice added three new counts to the federal indictment against Trump.

The former president was accused in the amended indictment of trying to “alter, destroy, mutilate, or conceal evidence” and instigating someone else to do so in connection with claims that he wanted security camera video from his Mar-A-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, erased. Employees were purportedly seen transporting crates containing sensitive papers in the video.

He is also accused of violating the Espionage Act for allegedly disclosing a confidential document to several people at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club, which is a well-known occurrence.

Fox News was told by the previous president that “the charges are ridiculous, and they know it better than anyone.”

Trump, who is now in the lead for the Republican presidential nomination, asserts that the accusations against him are an effort to rig the 2024 election.

“This is prosecutorial misconduct used at a level never seen before,” he said. “If I weren’t leading Biden by a lot in numerous polls, and wasn’t going to be the Republican nominee, it wouldn’t be happening. It wouldn’t be happening.”

“But I am way up as a Republican and way up in the general election and this is what you get,” The previous president continued.

“They’re harassing my company, they’re harassing my family and by far, least importantly of all, they’re harassing me,” he said.

On June 8th, Trump was indicted on 37 felony counts related to the improper handling of secret data, which might have resulted in major legal repercussions. Despite the seriousness of the accusations, he vehemently maintained his innocence and entered a not guilty plea.

On July 18, the former president disclosed that he expects Smith to bring charges against him for the events of January 6, 2021. This is a reference to a demonstration that was initially planned to voice concerns about election irregularities but ended up leading to a breach of the Capitol.

“Our country is suffering from DOJ abuse. Hopefully the Republican Party will do something about it,” Trump said Thursday.

Allegations have been leveled against the GOP front-runner that political interference tainted the inquiry of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. Republicans have reacted angrily to these events.

“The American people understand that Joe Biden and his administration are engulfed in one of the biggest political corruption scandals of all time,” Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, a Republican, made a message on social media.

“It is no coincidence that the day after a federal judge throws out Hunter Biden’s corrupt, sweetheart plea bargain, Biden’s weaponized [Department of Justice] continues its witch hunt against President Trump. Our Republic is in peril, our justice system is broken,” Stefanik said.
