The costs related to the federal lawsuit involving the sensitive materials against the former president Donald Trump are now known thanks to new information. According to the most recent data, it appears that special counsel Jack Smith and his staff expect to spend more than $25 million within a year. In addition, there’s a chance that a second criminal indictment may happen soon.
Smith’s team, which consists of 40 to 60 workers, has used $9.2 million in money over the last four months, according to sources familiar with his probe. This amount includes $1.9 million given to the U.S. Marshals to ensure the prosecutor, his family, and other investigators’ personal protection. Smith claims that as a result of President Trump’s online postings singling him out and criticizing the inquiry, he and his coworkers have received threats on social media.
Bills for Smith’s inquiry into how President Trump handled sensitive information have grown to at least $25 million. He accuses Trump of several felonies and claims that these records were declassified with his permission as president.
The expense to the Justice Department to prosecute Trump and his followers who participated in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021 is far more than the estimate. The DOJ’s current investigation into the J6 events is its largest in history.
