According to Department of Homeland Security officials speaking to CBS News on Wednesday, the Biden administration intends to significantly increase the processing of asylum seekers along the U.S.-Mexico border by allowing almost 40,000 people at authorized crossings each month, a record-breaking figure.
More migrants who are waiting in Mexico will be given access to CBP One, a government phone app that the Biden administration has turned into the primary entry point to the American asylum system, beginning in June.
According to DHS officials, U.S. border agents are ready to give 1,250 appointments each day, or about 38,750 appointments per month, to migrants in Mexico so they can show up at ports of entry for a chance to be admitted inside the country and submit an asylum request.
As opposed to the present monthly total of 20,000, twice as many people, totaling 40,000, have been admitted through the special parole system.
