Following his detention by the Department of Justice, Republican congressman for New York George Santos is now facing severe accusations. Allegations of wire fraud, money laundering, and the theft of public monies are among the 13 counts brought against him. For the complete narrative, keep reading.
Fox News states:
Several offenses, including wire fraud, money laundering, and theft of public funds, were brought against the congressman. The Eastern District of New York United States District Court has issued information on the 13-count indictment. Two charges of making false statements to the House of Representatives are also included.
Santos, a New York man, is charged following a federal grand jury indictment. After a grand jury indictment was handed out in Central Islip, New York, the day before, Santos was detained early on Wednesday. He is scheduled to show up in court later today to be charged by the federal judge. Santos is being detained at the courts while other legal actions are pending.
“This indictment seeks to hold Santos accountable for various alleged fraudulent schemes and brazen misrepresentations,” In a statement, US Attorney Breon Peace stated.
“Taken together, the allegations in the indictment charge Santos with relying on repeated dishonesty and deception to ascend to the halls of Congress and enrich himself. He used political contributions to line his pockets, unlawfully applied for unemployment benefits that should have gone to New Yorkers who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and lied to the House of Representatives. My Office and our law enforcement partners will continue to aggressively root out corruption and self-dealing from our community’s public institutions and hold public officials accountable to the constituents who elected them.”
Did you know that Santos received just two $564 unemployment checks before the DOJ indicted him? Mike Cernovich calls attention to how straightforward the allegations are.
CNN chooses to highlight Santos’ arrest on Wednesday morning rather of covering the stunning news from Rep. James Comer and the House Oversight Committee.
