Kaitlan Collins questioned President Trump on the crisis between Russia and Ukraine during a recent CNN town hall meeting in New Hampshire. The former president was asked whether he wanted either side to “win,” and his answer was unmistakably that he wanted peace and a swift stop to the fighting.
Trump reiterated his previous claim that he did not want to see the battle in terms of “winning or losing,” adding that resolving the conflict would be one of his top goals as president. Collins continued by saying that before directly posing the issue, it was “very important” to understand who Trump wants to “win” the war.
“I want everybody to stop dying, they’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians,” Trump made a forceful statement, to the cheers of the audience. “And I’ll have that done in 24 hours, I’ll have it done. You need the power of the presidency to do it,” The previous president continued.
“But you won’t say that you want Ukraine to win,” After responding, Collins quickly shifted the topic. Trump reiterated his desire for European and NATO nations to increase their own defense spending in order to lessen the burden on the United States.
“Ya know what I’ll say? I’ll say this: I want Europe to put up more money,” Trump said, adding that “they’re laughing at us.”
