Legislative Bill 77, recently approved by Nebraska’s state senators, allows residents of that state to carry concealed weapons without a permit. This hotly contested legislation was passed by an astonishing margin of 33-14 and is currently on Republican Governor Jim Pillen’s desk for final approval. If approved, it could herald in a new era of firearm availability throughout the Cornhusker State.
Nebraska is about to allow its residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit. Despite current laws requiring people to pay $100 for a permit and finish an expensive safety course, if Legislative Bill 77 becomes law, it will join the other 25 states that currently uphold the freedom to bear weapons for their citizens.

The bill’s proponents emphasize how it violates the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding residents and may prevent them from protecting themselves, but they also acknowledge that requiring a permit and safety training can increase gun security.
“What we do in this body sometimes is trying to follow through with the will of the people and give them the rights that they have in the Constitution,” State Sen. Tom Brewer said. “And sometimes we go out of the way and twist those rights and keep people from having them, and I think this is a case of that.
Governor Pillen now controls Nebraska’s destiny after three acrimonious discussions came to an end. His signature would cause Nebraska to join the select club of Alaska, Arizona, and Wyoming, which don’t require permits for people to carry concealed weapons.
LB 77 was approved by the Nebraska Legislature on Wednesday, and Pillen thanked them for doing so. He praised their resolve to enact substantive change and expressed gratitude for their efforts in building a better future.
